14 Gloucester Wedding Venues

Gloucester is one amazing city to get married in!

With the River Severn running through the centre, to the Cotswolds Hills to the East and the Forest of Dean to the west as well as over 2000 years of history, you will be hard-pressed to find such a unique place for your nuptials.

With major transport links available and beautiful countryside on its doorstep, there are a number of simply stunning venues to choose from for the most special day of your lives.

Here are a few of my favourites…

1.    Elmore Court

One of the most popular Gloucestershire venues is Elmore Court, situated to the south of the city of Gloucester. With views over the River Severn and Cotswolds Hills, the house, garden and bespoke wedding suite (called The Gillyflower) are exclusively yours. 15 bedrooms are also available for your guests in addition to the Bridal suite. Elmore prides itself of being fun, magical and unforgettable, which is certainly is!

2.    Blackfriars Priory

The first of Gloucester’s ancient buildings that oozes historical class is found right in the centre of the city. It’s an exclusive use venue with plenty of hotels and car parks nearby for your guests. This venue definitely has the ‘wow’ factor as a unique building that goes back centuries. With a number of function rooms to choose from and each with its own story and place in history, this immaculate venue simply must be viewed to appreciate its full glory.

3.    Gloucester Cathedral

Needing no introduction, this iconic building is at the heart of Gloucester. Having had the privilege of working in this beautiful building and exploring every nook and cranny on my work breaks, there are a few lesser-known spots for some wonderful wedding photographs (and I’m keeping them secret!). There are a few caveats to getting married here though – you’ll need to have previously been a pupil at Kings School, a member of the congregation or a member of staff. Failing that, it might be worth enquiring with the events team as there a number of smaller chapels for use plus hire of the medieval Parliament rooms for your reception. I know I’m biased, but this is one of my favourites in the whole of the UK.

4.    Over Barn

Located just to the north of the city is Over Barn. If you could picture the most rustic and rural of English barns, this venue definitely fits the bill! Holding up to 120 guests with some on-site accommodation, this is the perfect countryside barn venue within easy reach of major transport links and well worth a visit.

5.    Bowden Hall Hotel

This exceptional Georgian manor hotel includes magnificent views over the Severn Vale and Cotswolds Hills. Recently they’ve installed some outdoor dining ‘pods’, which I absolutely adore as they are a unique garden feature and perfect for photography. The hotel has numerous offers on for the savvy shoppers so it’s well worth checking out!

6.    Hatton Court Hotel

Set just outside the city, up the road from the village of Upton-St- Leonards, is Hatton Court Hotel. It features sweeping views of the village, over the hills, the city, as well as the Severn Vale. With 3 ceremony rooms to choose from and numerous packages plus beautiful gardens, this venue provides the perfect intimate Cotswolds ceremony.

7.    Llanthony Secunda Priory

The third of Gloucester’s historic city centre venues is Llanthony Secunda Priory, which has recently been refurbished to bring it back to its former glory. There is the option of having exclusive use of the whole site if needed and one of my favourite features is that you can arrive by boat on the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal! What I love most about historic buildings is the numerous opportunities for breathtaking photos and this one definitely lives up to its reputation.

8.    Hatherley Manor Hotel

Situated to the north of the city is Hatherley Manor Spa Hotel, which has five functional suites for your ceremony and can accommodate up to 400 guests! This venue also has a lot of experience with Asian style weddings so it’s definitely a must to check out for both intimate and larger nuptials.

9.    Maisemore Court

Situated in the picturesque grounds of Maisiemore Court, just outside of Gloucester. This countryside, exclusive use venue has a gorgeous lake and includes facilities such as a stunning marquee and glamping for your guests. It’s perfect for all sorts of weddings such as festival themed, bohemian and classic English romance.

10. Painswick Rocco Gardens

Located not far from the city, this venue is perfect for lovers of the great outdoors and of flora and fauna. The backdrops at this venue are simply breathtaking. If you can imagine an enchanting, magical fairy-like garden you have Painswick Rocco. With numerous follies, various plants and space for Marquees, this is truly one of the most unique venues in Gloucestershire.

11. The Painswick

I adore Painswick (if you hadn’t guessed!). I lived there a few moons ago and can absolutely vouch for just how stunning this valley is. In fact, I dare anyone to take a bad photo here, as it simply can’t be done! Which is why I’ve included two venues in this village and this is the second. The Painswick is what I would call quintessentially ‘Cotswolds’ and absolutely perfect for the chic, laid-back, relaxed style of wedding.

12. Musselend Farm

Set on a farm in rural Gloucestershire just outside the city, Musselend is a family-run venue and also a working farm. The Lamb Shed is the main reception space with the use of the fields around for anything from glamping to barbeques to fireworks. You are welcome to choose your own catering company and you can also purchase cuts of meat from the farm itself for your wedding breakfast. This venue is perfect for a relaxed style of wedding.

13. Cowley Manor

The amazing thing about this venue is that it can create the most beautiful of small intimate ceremonies as well as creating fun and laughter-filled larger wedding for up to 200 people. Each wedding is completely bespoke and tailored to you both. There is also a historic church on the grounds of the hotel for religious ceremonies. I also have to say that the spa is also second to none!

14. Blaisdon Hall

This beautiful Grade II listed Victorian venue is a little known gem just to the West of Gloucester. With gorgeous panoramic views over the Gloucestershire countryside and exclusive use, it certainly will take your breath away with its grandeur and perfect countryside setting. Everywhere you turn is a beautiful photo opportunity so its well worth checking their website and visiting in person.
